Privacy.
Effective October 15, 2026.
Layoff Alerts is made and sold by Chris DeWeese, an independent developer, who is responsible for this policy (“we” below). It's built to know as little about you as possible. There is no account, no advertising, no tracking and no analytics SDK.
What stays on your phone
The employers, areas and searches you watch, and your settings, are stored only on your device. We never receive them as a list tied to you.
Alerts
To deliver alerts, the app uses Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging. Your device gets a registration token, and the app subscribes it to topics for what you watch, such as the first words of an employer's name or a state. A topic is shared by everyone who watches the same thing; we can't see who subscribes to which topic. Google processes the token to deliver notifications under its Firebase privacy terms. Turning off notifications or deleting the app stops alerts.
The notice feed
The app downloads a public file of WARN notices from Firebase Hosting. Like any web server, it may log your IP address to operate the service. We don't use those logs to identify you.
Purchases
Layoff Alerts Pro is sold through Apple. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details or Apple Account. The app checks your subscription on the device with Apple's StoreKit.
On-device intelligence
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, features like Ask about this notice and plain-English search run on your device with Apple's on-device model. Your questions aren't sent to us.
How long things are kept, and deleting them
What you watch stays on your phone until you remove it or delete the app. The alert token stays with Firebase while the app is installed, and Firebase treats a token as expired after 270 days without use. We keep no profile of you and no copy of the hosting logs. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone at once and stops its alerts; there's no account to close.
Where notices come from
WARN notices are public records published by state workforce agencies. Some employer letters list individual workers; we never display individuals' names, and personal details are removed before a letter is read. If you find personal information in the app that shouldn't be there, write to us and we'll remove it.
Children
Layoff Alerts isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
